In this exhibition Antonis Papadopoulos presents a unit of painted works and manufactures using the idea of the 'house' as basic theme. This notion is being approached through the prism of sentimental surrealism; humane-shaped works of houses, where the ''outside'' becomes the ''inside''. House presented like a tiny image of our personality within the world. A house that is safe and warm but also a house tightly shut!
A house presented as a doll's-house, where its protagonists and its story seem to be self described through the very objects material shape. A familiar house where objects and shapes are similar; the representation of realistic and fantastic, of the idea, of place and of sentiment; the representation of this idea is achieved symbolically. House-nest, house-shelter, house-trailer but also a dolls house, a house-miniature, house constructed or a house under construction, a house on fire or within a twister; an open house, parental house, a house bringing-up memories.me as a house, your house, his/hers house, house-self. This is a human-centered effort, through human absence.
The stylistic subjects approach by the artist is based upon a highly surrealistic design, motives with clean cut outlines, some elements are micrographic designed in contrast with the exaggerated attribution of others, the solid colors and the surrealistic accentual gradations create intensive atmospheric creations are almost identical to the French Surrealistic movement and in smaller scale to the Fauvists.
However, whichever the references, the painting style of Magritte and the rest of the artists of the surrealist movement is yet to appear.
This artist's new line of work carries and contains his personal style and on a second levels his entire knowledge of Art, since the time of Modernism.

During the same time of this exhibition, on the middle gallery level, Kassiani Tsakiridi presents her third individual exhibition, entitled: ''Surfaced Explosions''. Expressionistic compositions in mixed medium and vividly anastatic color compositions, which in their harsh earthly materials convey, in the best possible stylistic way, the artists' quests. These are human-centered works on which one can clearly observe primitive figures in natural sceneries, figures carrying a load-package-present-offer but also a burden.
The four basic elements, Earth, Water, Fire and Air are also the dominating elements: man, in a smaller scale, gives life to the scenes. The movement, the action, the life, the works, the power but also the lucidity expressed and inspired through the dialectic of place and man. Tension succeeds and calmness follows as natural elements play an important part, phenomena like rain, nebulas, wave and fire.
The sense of primitive, primeval, of the basic elements of life and matter, arise through the chromatic scale and her works technical characteristics, on which the artist develops her style of mixed medium techniques and rich materials, in the two-dimensional this time. Human figures remain uncharacterized, anaglyphic, pale-white, reminding us archaic sculptural figures. One could argue that it is Man who lives, runs, penetrates, expresses, lives his/her being, through a dialectic earthly world, alone against natures elements or in counteraction with other figures.
Expressionism enters in a dialogue with Form Geometry. Freedom in vivid lineal elements with jagged outlines and limits, the indifference for the illusion of volume but also the richness of its material, with which the artist creates through a game of unbelievable fantasy using materials such as, synthetic hair, glue, paper, plastic membranes, powder color and cloth: in combination with various chromatic choices which vary from all shades of white and earthly tones, up to the most vibrant reds and most wet sky blues, create a material and discarnate world. In a world and stories of yesterday and today, timeless stories, a world speaking of effort, of existence and of the soul, which might be made out of fire, water, earth, or air.
Duration of exhibition: until Saturday 7th of February 2009
